Holistic Approaches to Feminine Care: Mind, Body, and Spirit

Women's health has been a topic of concern in more recent years, mostly due to healthcare providers not taking women's issues seriously when they go to the doctor. Being told it must be your period and you should sleep more and eat better is not the diagnosis women want. More women are taking their health into their own hands and are looking for a more holistic approach to healthcare. Feminine care - whether it's mental, physical or social well-being - is in addition to the standard reproductive health.

Women's health isn't only about being able to have or not have a baby. Your mind, body and spirit all fall under the feminine care umbrella. If you struggle with any aspect of taking care of yourself properly as a female, here is how a more holistic approach might be the answer you are looking for.

What Is Holistic Health?

Holistic health is a different approach to creating a healthy mind and body connection. It addresses not only the mental, physical, social and emotional components but also the spiritual. It might sound like we are going to try to get you to join a cult, but that's not what holistic health is about.

This type of health practice draws from a little bit of everything. From the environment a person is living in, to the culture of a person to their personal beliefs and disciplines, holistic health uses it all to address your well-being.

It's not looking at a rash and saying, yes, that's a rash, here is some ointment, thank you, bye. It's looking at the rash and asking more in-depth questions to see if it is stress-related versus environmental. It just digs deeper.

How Holistic Health Applies to Feminine Health

Women's health is mostly focused on the reproductive aspect, with pains and aches being written off as period cramps or menopause. The holistic approach wants to go beyond that. How other factors could cause the issue or what else could be the reason for the problem is discussed. This approach to feminine wellness uses other strategies to get your whole self balanced.

What Holistic Health Looks Like

There are main components to take care of to see a completely healthy person. We know it's hard work to be there for yourself, but someone has to do it, so it might as well be you.

  • A proper diet
  • Physical health
  • Practicing self-care
  • Not neglecting your mental health
  • Getting your rest
  • Staying active

These might sound simple, and that's a good thing. We hope you think that, so you are more inclined to do these things. And, no, sorry, only doing one or two of these things isn't going to cover it.

You are what you eat. What your diet consists of is going to directly correlate to how you feel. Eat nothing but salty chips and you will feel bloated and tired all of the time. That goes right into fitness. You have to move your body. Get a walking pad and walk through a few shows, take a class at a rec center or get outside every day.

Self-care and your mental health go hand in hand. You can't fill anyone else's cup if yours is empty. You can't be a good friend, parent or partner if you are mentally drained. Keep a journal or have a weekly check-in with a friend to keep your mental health up. Self-care will be an additional tool for that.

Give yourself a weekly spa day, meditate twice a day for 10 minutes, or read a book for a bit. Do whatever you need to for your brain to reset and remember you can breathe. Self-care and mental health are the spiritual parts of holistic feminine care you need to take care of.

Sleep is wonderful. We love sleep. You should love sleep, too. Not getting enough rest messes with everything in your body.

Besides sleep, staying active is one of the most important things you can do for yourself. Being a slug always in the house might sound lovely, and it probably is for a few days, but after that, sadness and depression from not being in the sun or seeing another human's face starts to set it. Walking is one of the best anti-depressants and a phenomenal way to get in shape. We don't run, but walking in one of our leggings and waist trainers while listening to true crime podcasts is in our wheelhouse. Try to get in 30 minutes a day of physical activity, but 60 minutes of movement would be outstanding.

Why You Should Practice Holistic Feminine Care

Each person is responsible for their health. Everyone is an active (or inactive) participant in their choices. Using this mind, body and spirit process along with helpful products like our Teatox for healing and health awareness gets you more in tune with yourself so you know when something is off and when you feel your best.

We aren't saying it's a replacement treatment for seeing a doctor and getting your annual checks, but it's more a lifestyle and preventative care. Each person has a unique set of circumstances, but what makes us all the same is each aspect needs to be nurtured to thrive. We aren't a floating brain and we aren't only a bag of bones walking around. Taking care of each part in the gentlest sense is the way to go.

Feminine care is more than family planning. While reproductive health is important, whether you have kids or not, it's all a woman's health is. Find a way to destress that works for you, make sure your body gets moved around daily, and try to eat something other than leftover pizza. Once you find the right balance for your body, mind and spirit, you'll be unstoppable.
